Desert Claim Wind Power Project - Revised Page last updated January 14, 2013

The Desert Claim Wind Power Project has been revised to be a 190 megawatt (MW) wind power project located on approximately 5,200 contiguous acres in Kittitas County, eight miles northwest of Ellensburg, Washington (location map).  The Project will consist of a maximum of 95 turbines and associated electrical collection system that would connect the Project to the regional high-voltage transmission grid.  The Project area includes purchased land and land leased from private and public land owners.   

The revised Desert Claim Wind Power Project will continue to use REpower MM92 model turbines.  This turbine model has a tower height of 258 feet, a rotor diameter of 304 feet with a total height of 410 feet.  Each turbine has a nameplate generating capacity of 2.0 MW.

The Revised Application for Site Certification was submitted on February 6, 2009.  The original Application for Site Certification was submitted on November 6, 2006. 

EFSEC issued Order No. 843 Recommending Approval of Site Certification Agreement on November 16, 2009. The Governor approved the Desert Claim Wind Power Project on February 1, 2010.  Governor Gregoire's approval letter to the EFSEC Chair and Site Certification Agreement.

There are no immediate plans to begin construction of the project.

July 13, 2009 - EFSEC holds adjudicative hearings.

April 29, 2009 - Approval of intervenors and beginning of Adjudicative proceeding

April 2, 2009 - Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement is issued addressing possible impacts to the areas that may not have been covered or addressed by the 2004 Environmental Impact Statement prepared by Kittitas County.

March 27, 20009 - The adjudicative process begins with the issuance of the Notice of Adjudication, Notice for Intervention and Notice of Prehearing Conference.

February 6, 2009 - After almost a 2 year pause, enXco submitted a Revised Application to EFSEC.  On February 10, 2009 EFSEC approved an extension of its review period until Dec. 31, 2009.

On November 16, 2009, EFSEC issued Order No. 843 recommending the Governor approve the Desert Claim Wind Power Project - Draft Site Certification Agreement.
